Airline Flights Hijacked
On September 11, 2001 United Airline Flights 175 and 93 and American Airline Flights 77 and 11 were hijacked by 19 al Qaeda terrorists. At 8:00 a.m. American Airline Flight 11 began its takeoff roll at Logan Airport in Boston. Flight 11 was bound for Los Angeles with 81 passengers, the 11 crew, and 24,000 gallons of jet fuel. By 8:09 a.m. Flight 11 was being monitored by FAA's Boston Center in New Hampshire. Flight 175 left Boston's Logan Airport at 8:14 a.m. heading for Los Angeles, Flight 175 contained 56 passengers and a 9 crew. Flight 93 was on a regular day schedule, seven crew members assigned to Flight 93 began to prepare for the early morning non-stop. Thirty-three passengers were traveling for ordinary reasons, Flight 93 was a boeing 757 with a capacity of 182 passengers. The terrorists on the planes were on a suicide mission.
